Default Newish to the game. What to make?

Ok,

So i have Guildwars Factions, and i bought it when it was new.
I have played the game twice, About the first month and once after for a week or two.

Well now i feel like giving it another shot after all this time and read about GuildWars2 wich i found somewhat interesting.
I allready got a Monk/Necromancer and his about lvl 10.

Should i continue with my Monk/Necro or is it a waste of time? What i mean is I want something Strong that can kill something and not rely on companions.
I remember this beeing Strong but if i remember correctly a uppdate messed it upp, maybe thats why i left? cant rememeber...

If i would make a new charr i think i preffer a magics user, Monk looks cool but im not sure if i can make one strong. Maybe a Monk/Assassin? (ok well assassin isnt magical but the idea sounds fun to mee)

Thank you in Advance.

Out of the spellcasters I think Elemental or Ritualist can solo a fair bit once you have the right skills.

Necros are pretty powerful too but not as easy to go solo in ordinary play.

With the right build Monks can deal some killing, but they are not really suited for it. If you want a caster that kills and is simple to use, I suggest Elementalist.

It was my first GW character and it is a very strong choice. Reasons:

1. The majority of the skills are pretty simple to understand, not too conditional and pretty fun to use. Most deal damage to target(s) and cause an associated effect (snare, knockdown, condition, etc).

2. Your job is pretty simple in usually just dealing damage, sometimes supporting your team with a Ward here and there. If you do it poorly until you learn, the team will not suffer as badly, as say, if you were a Monk doing really bad.

3. The profession is very versatile due to high Energy pool and has more complex uses as you learn the game. For example, various good farming builds (can make good $$$$) and good support builds that don't necessarily focus on damage.

So my vote goes for Elementalist over the other casters, although some may argue Necromancer could be even easier than Elementalist in PvE (thanks to Soul Reaping's Energy bonus).

Good luck.

You should ALWAYS go with companions. You should only solo when farming. Make a new char according to the suggestions that will appear in the thread. If you find that the game is fun again, get the rest of it. Its dead cheap now and Prof and Fac is less than half the game.

Warrior! Cannot beat being upfront being mobbed by silly PVE beasties then spanking out some beautiful damage.

Or elementalist, if you like backline spanking out crazy damage, but slow and generally causing things to run around and attack your backliners!

Or with the buffs to Rits, i find them really fun, and you can fullfill the role of healer if thats what sparked your interest in monks.
